Keeping the Past Alive

Stony Hill School is the birthplace of Flag Day. It was there in 1885 that a young school teacher named Bernard Cigrand held the very first observance of Flag Day. He placed a small American Flag in a bottle on his schoolroom desk and assigned students to write essays on the subject of the flag.
